Having steel counterweights made

From the required mass to a suitable steel format: the information needed to source individually manufactured counterweights.

Plan mass and installation space together

Counterweights are used to influence the mass distribution of a structure. Required mass and available installation space are the first procurement criteria. Shape, mounting and conditions at the installation site also matter.

The required balancing effect follows from the design of the complete machine or plant. An enquiry to the manufacturer should therefore include an approved drawing and the required target mass.

Choosing material and starting format

BEB supplies stock for counterweights and tailors processing to the requirement. Depending on the application, suitable steel plate or other appropriate starting formats can be used. Our service page includes 2a steel as a material for counterweights.

The appropriate quality depends on required properties, documentation and further processing. Where welding is planned, material grade and suitability for welding must be explicitly clarified.

Define the manufacturing scope

Specify whether you need stock material, a cut piece or a further processed part. Drawings should show overall dimensions, openings, mounting areas and all functionally relevant tolerances.

BEB offers straightening, grinding, abrasive cutting and sawing. Explicitly state additional requirements such as holes, coatings or special mounting arrangements so that the intended scope of supply can be assessed.

Allow for weight tolerance and delivery

A permitted mass deviation may be required in addition to dimensional tolerances. State target weight and weight tolerance separately. Weight calculated from volume and material density is a planning figure; any agreed weight verification needs separate consideration.

For heavy parts, handling and transport should be planned early. State individual weight, delivery location and any special delivery or packaging requirements.

Making your requirements specific

For an enquiry, BEB needs a drawing, target mass, permissible deviations, material specification, dimensions and quantity. Include the required processing scope and delivery date.

If you are still choosing between starting formats, describe your design constraints. Together we can assess which available material and processing route suit your requirements.

Your next step

Discuss your requirements.

A drawing, material grade, dimensions and required result help us assess your enquiry.
